Eldara Seventeen Skill Pets
Master a skill, claim a companion, keep the bonus through rebirth.
Eldara’s companions are a seventeen-entry Codex, not a pet battler. Each skill in the 1.0 list has a matching pet. You unlock the companion by mastering that skill. The pet then grants a permanent bonus to its domain and stays with you through rebirth. That is the whole contract. There is no hunger minigame, no paid hatch, and no second currency behind a cash shop.
This page is the roster: how unlocks work, the full seventeen-name roster, and how pets sit next to houses and bosses. It lives on the factions, pets, and bosses hub beside those other two systems. For whether a companion is worth chasing this week, use pet rankings by domain. Rankings talk roles. This page talks the collection.
The unlock rule
One skill, one pet. The seventeen skills are Melee, Range, Magic, Defence, Hitpoints, Mining, Smithing, Woodcutting, Fishing, Cooking, Fletching, Firemaking, Cultivating, Cremating, Crafting, Thieving, and Hunting. Master the skill — meaning you take it through the mastery the game actually requires, not a fan-made level guess — and the companion becomes available. If a tooltip in your build says otherwise, trust the tooltip. This wiki will not invent a hidden friendship meter.
Because pets persist through rebirth, a mastery you finish before you prestige is worth more than a Forge rank you will throw away. Eternal Forge Echoes reset. Pets do not. Codex entries, collections, and achievements also stay. If you are hours from a pet and days from a crate exchange, take the pet. The rebirth reset planner exists so that sentence has a checklist.
Training order still starts with Firemaking as a global XP accelerator. A pet chase that lets fires go out is a slow chase. Pair this roster with skill training priority and the static skill planner.
The seventeen companions
Official studio art lists one companion per skill. Confirm the live tooltip if a patch moves a number; the pairing is the part that should stay stable.
Combat and survival:
- Steelfang (Melee) — +10% Melee XP
- Sharpeye (Range) — +10% Range XP
- Whisper (Magic) — +10% Magic XP
- Stoneshell (Defence) — +3% damage reduction
- Heartbeat (Hitpoints) — +5 max HP
Gathering:
- Pebble (Mining) — 5% chance of double ore
- Barkback (Woodcutting) — 5% chance of double logs
- Bubbly (Fishing) — 5% chance of double fish
- Sprout (Cultivating) — +10% Cultivating XP
- Tracker (Hunting) — +20% contract gold
Artisan and support:
- Cinderclaw (Smithing) — +10% Smithing XP
- Nibbles (Cooking) — food heals +5 extra HP
- Emberpaw (Firemaking) — +10% Firemaking XP
- Ashen (Cremation) — +10% Cremation XP
- Gemgrub (Crafting) — +10% Crafting XP
- Pinchpaws (Thieving) — +10% gold from Thieving
- Quillfeather (Fletching) — 5% chance for an extra bow
Steelfang is still the wolf people remember. Sharpeye is the hawk. Whisper is the spectral familiar. Sprout is the seedling. The rest of the roster is on the Companions of Eldara board. A hawk does not replace Fletching. Nibbles is why cooking mastery is more than a food stack.
What “permanent bonus” means
It means the pet keeps paying after you close the client, after you prestige, and after you swap idle blocks. It does not mean the bonus is always the best click in the game. Exact percentages can move in patches — Early Access already taught that lesson — so this page will not tattoo a number that a hotfix can embarrass. Confirm the live tooltip. Rank the domain on the pet list if you need a chase order.
Permanent also means you should not treat pets like food. You do not sacrifice them to the Eternal Forge. You do not donate them to a house. Houses want items; see three faction houses. Pets want mastery.
Pets versus houses versus bosses
Houses do not grant pets. Ashen Legion, Verdant Circle, and Gilded Hammer can make a domain feel on-theme — combat, gathering, artisan — but the unlock is still the skill. A Hammer player can unlock Steelfang. A Legion player can unlock Sprout. Donations that raise one house can cut the other two; that has nothing to do with whether the hawk is sitting in your Codex.
Bosses do not drop the seventeen skill pets. Dungeon lairs such as the Sunken Crypt and Ignarath’s throne drop loot and threat. The Abyssal Hornfiend drops a chance at the Abyssal Cape, which is legendary melee back gear at 0.03%, not a pet. Do not confuse a cape hunt with a companion hunt. Boss context lives on the mythic world bosses page.
Combat pets shine when you park the matching style. Gathering pets shine when you actually gather. Artisan pets shine when fires, food, and benches are the bottleneck. That sentence is the roster’s only “meta.”
A collection plan that respects idle time
- Light Firemaking and keep Woodcutting close so every other mastery is cheaper.
- Master Cooking before you brag about a combat pet you cannot feed.
- Master your main style (Melee, Range, or Magic) and claim Steelfang, Sharpeye, or Whisper if those are the Codex names on your build.
- Master the bench that feeds that style: Smithing, Fletching, or Crafting.
- Master Cultivating for Sprout when reagents or food plants stall.
- Sweep Defence, Hitpoints, Mining, Fishing, Cremating, Thieving, and Hunting as Codex nights, not as panic nights.
- Rebirth only after the pet you were racing is home, unless the +5 refinement on a finished set is truly worth more than the mastery you would delay. Read what survives a rebirth.
Hardcore does not add extra pets. It adds a grave. One life, half XP, half gold. Do not take a fresh combat pet into a mythic on that mode to “test the bonus.”
Sixty-eight Steam achievements include collection-shaped goals; treat them as a bonus layer, not as a reason to skip Firemaking. Offline progress already counts toward the skills that unlock these companions. The game is a one-time purchase. The wolf is not for sale.
Seventeen pets is a Codex project, not a weekend. Master the skill, claim the companion, then move on; the wolf, hawk, wisp, and seedling are proof that each domain has a face.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many pets are in Eldara 1.0?
Seventeen — one per skill. Combat faces include Steelfang, Sharpeye, and Whisper; gathering includes Sprout, Pebble, and Barkback; artisan faces include Emberpaw, Cinderclaw, and Nibbles. Confirm bonuses on the live tooltip.
Do I lose pets when I rebirth?
No. Pets persist, along with Codex, collections, and achievements. Eternal Forge Echoes reset. That split is spelled out on the rebirth planner.
Can I buy a pet or hatch extras?
No. Eldara is a one-time Steam purchase with no microtransactions. Companions come from mastering skills, not from a shop.
Should I unlock combat pets before gathering pets?
Only if you actually hunt. A Firemaking or Woodcutting companion can do more for the whole account. Use pet rankings by domain for chase order and this page for unlock rules.
Do houses or bosses drop skill pets?
No. Houses take donations and shift reputation. Bosses drop loot such as the Abyssal Cape. Pets come from skill mastery. See the faction houses and world bosses if you mixed those loops together.
