Getting Started in Eldara
A first-week plan for the Forgotten Realm: tools, food, a house, and one combat style.
What you just bought
Eldara: The Forgotten Realm is a single-player idle RPG from Eldara Games. It left Early Access on 2 September 2026. You are not joining a live-service season. You are buying a premium client that keeps ticking while you work, sleep, or take the Steam Deck on a train. There is no multiplayer, no battle pass, and no redeemable promo sheet. If a site promises codes, it is talking about a different game.
This page is the first week, not the endgame. For the raw click-path — how to set an activity, what offline progress actually stores, where the Codex lives, how Steam Cloud behaves — use the idle-loop and client primer. For a ranked view of which skills pay rent early, keep the skill ranking board in another tab.
You are not playing Eldarya, and you are not playing Tales of Eldara in a browser. This is Steam app 4746070. The world is a kingdom of seven spires that the Sundering knocked out of living memory. You arrive late. The ruins still work. So do the things that broke them.
Install, window, and the first activity
Install from Steam, then launch once while you are at the keyboard. Eldara runs happily in a desktop window; fullscreen is optional. Minimum spec is gentle: 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i3 or AMD equivalent from the last decade, 2 GB of RAM, DirectX 11, and about 500 MB of disk. Steam Deck is Playable. Turn on Steam Cloud so a laptop session and a deck session share the same save.
Your first decision is not a talent tree. It is which action to leave running. Mining and Woodcutting are honest openers: they drop materials you can see, they rarely kill you, and they feed Smithing, Firemaking, Fletching, and Crafting. Fishing is the same idea with a different node. Do not open with Thieving or a deep dungeon. Do not open with a mythic boss. The full skill web explains why those loops want supporting levels first.
Set the activity, watch three or four ticks, then confirm two things: your inventory is not jammed, and you are not about to starve in a fight you did not mean to start. If the bag fills, bank. If you are in combat without food, walk away from that tile. Auto-eat only helps when cooking has given it something to chew.
Food, Firemaking, and a cheap combat style
Cooking is early-game insurance. Fish and crops become the meals that let auto-eat hold a fight while you are in another window. Cultivating supplies herbs and plants; Hunting and Fishing supply carcasses. You do not need a gourmet menu in week one. You need a stack that outlasts a skeleton camp.
Firemaking is the sleeper tutorial. It is a global experience accelerator for every skill, not a campfire minigame. Lighting logs you already chopped is one of the highest-leverage clicks in the first ten hours. Treat it as part of gathering, not as a prestige hobby. Woodcutting feeds it. The Verdant Circle later rewards that same cluster.
Combat can wait until food exists. When you do fight, pick one style and stay there for a while. Melee wants smithing plates. Range wants fletched arrows. Magic wants the mage kit and a respect for fire. Official weaknesses still matter: skeletons resist melee, wraiths fear fire, dragons fall to arrows. The melee-range-magic breakdown is the full triangle. Your week-one job is simpler: do not die to a trash pack because you brought the wrong weapon and an empty backpack.
Defence and Hitpoints rise as you take hits and as you commit to a style. They are not skipped; they are just not the first bar you stare at. Backpacks expand how much loot a trip can carry. Bank the valuables. Leave the junk. The Codex will log new monsters and items whether you read it or not — read it anyway when a name is unfamiliar.
Houses, pets, and what not to rush
Three houses are joinable. The Ashen Legion wants combat and Hunting. The Verdant Circle wants Woodcutting, Fishing, Firemaking, Fletching, and Cultivating. The Gilded Hammer wants Smithing, Crafting, and the gold loop. Donating to one can lower standing with the others, so your first donations should match the skills you are already training. Lore names — Cult of Ignarath, Wanderers, Mages’ Conclave, Merchant Guild — are not join buttons. Details sit on the house reputation primer and the companions hub.
Pets unlock one per skill. Steelfang the wolf pup, Sharpeye the hawk, Whisper the spectral familiar, and Sprout the seedling are the named faces; the rest of the seventeen follow the same rule. Each pet grants a permanent bonus in its domain and survives rebirth. That last clause is why you should not delay pet progress forever. The pet bonus list and the pet value board help you decide who is worth a detour.
Do not rebirth on day two. Rebirth resets some levels and tools. It keeps Codex, collections, achievements, and pets, and it stamps +5 refinement onto equipped combat gear. That is a powerful lever after you have a kit worth stamping — it is a trap if you prestige in starter rags. When the first prestige is actually close, read the rebirth and Forge guide and run the prestige calculator. Hardcore is a different save philosophy entirely; do not flip it on a learning character. The one-life Hardcore rules exist so you can opt in later with your eyes open.
A first-week checklist that respects idle time
Aim for this shape, not a speedrun clock:
- One gathering skill high enough to feed a production skill (mine to smith, chop to fletch or burn, fish to cook).
- A food stack large enough that auto-eat can survive a wrong pull.
- Firemaking ticking whenever you have spare logs.
- One combat style with a matching cheap weapon, not three half-built sets.
- Codex entries for the monsters you have actually seen.
- A house that matches the cluster you are already training.
- Bank space cleared so overnight ticks do not stall on a full bag.
Dungeons wait until that list is boring. The Sunken Crypt is a teaching instance, not a first-night trophy. Mythic world bosses — warrior, ranger, mage — are later still. When you are ready, the dungeon and boss walkthrough and the mythic boss dossiers are the next rung. Loadout ideas after a house and a pet live on the build ranking page. Patch history is on the update log hub, including the version 1.0 patch notes and the Early Access recap.
If you want a storefront opinion before you sink a weekend into Gilded Hammer donations, the post-1.0 Eldara review is honest about Steam reception, AI-curated art, and Melvor Idle comparisons. Official store, site, and Discord are collected on the official links page. Extra calculators sit on the wiki tools desk. When a later system unlocks, return to the guides overview instead of hunting random third-party checklists.
The Forgotten Realm will still be there in the morning. Your job tonight is a clean activity, a food stack, and a house that does not fight the skills you already like. Everything else — Echoes, sixty-four Forge ranks, a grave with your name on it — is a decision you make after the Codex has something worth keeping.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What should I train first in Eldara?
Open with Mining, Woodcutting, or Fishing so materials exist, then cook food and burn spare logs. Firemaking accelerates every skill. See the full skill web before you specialise.
When should I start combat?
After auto-eat has a food stack. Pick one style and respect weaknesses — skeletons resist melee, wraiths fear fire, dragons fall to arrows. Details are in the melee-range-magic breakdown.
Which house should I join first?
Join the house that matches skills you are already training: Ashen Legion for combat and Hunting, Verdant Circle for gathering and Firemaking, Gilded Hammer for smithing and crafting. Read the house reputation primer before you donate heavily.
Should a new player rebirth immediately?
No. Wait until equipped combat gear is worth a +5 refinement stamp and you understand what resets. Use the rebirth and Forge guide and the prestige calculator.
Does Eldara have promo codes?
No. Eldara is a premium one-time Steam purchase with no microtransactions and no redeemable promo codes. Ignore any site that claims otherwise.
